Background
Chapter has been a cultural centre for Cardiff since 1968 and today is regarded as one of the most successful multi-disciplinary arts organisations in the UK. A major centre for the contemporary arts in Europe, it welcomes 500,000 visitors annually to its two cinemas, theatre and gallery space.
As well as providing support and a home for many of Wales’ best-known names in theatre, dance, music, art and animation, 150 voluntary organisations rely on Chapter to provide facilities for the delivery of education and outreach workshops, courses and events.
How we helped
Decades of wear and tear meant the building was in a fairly poor state of repair. So in order to better meet the needs of its users, a £3.8m redevelopment project was undertaken to extend and improve the venue. Charity Bank lent £650,000 to assist with the extensive refurbishment.
