Emmaus Glasgow

Background:
Emmaus Glasgow is a self-help and self-supporting enterprise which offers unemployed and homeless people community, work, companionship and the chance to regain self-respect through their own efforts.  It is currently the only Emmaus community in Scotland, with 26 rooms to accommodate the 24 companions and 2 leaders plus a workshop, café, shop, offices and training rooms where the companions work on furniture recycling and selling.

Berinsfield Community Business

Background:
BCB was formed to provide sustainable employment and training for local people, to improve the quality of services provided to the community and to enhance the local environment. It has grown into a successful grounds and property maintenance service company, providing a professional and reliable service to Parish, District and County Councils, Social Housing Associations, Independent Businesses and Homeowners whilst still serving the local community.

Age Concern Newham

Background:
Age Concern Newham has a borough-wide remit to provide a range of help and support services – such as legal advice and healthy living programmes – for older people of all communities (it is estimated that 30% of people of pensionable age in Newham will be from black and minority ethnic communities by 2011).  It operates as the lead agency in partnership with a number of statutory and voluntary organisations and has developed a diverse range of funding sources to maximise its level of outreach.

Mull Butchers Shop

Background:
Mull Butchers Ltd (MBL), is a community enterprise and the only remaining independent butcher shop on Mull. The shop appeals to older and disabled customers and those without access to transport to mainland supermarkets.  It focuses on selling the produce of local farmers and crofters and has a community support policy, contributing to fundraising events and the annual Mull and Iona Food Festival.

The Colchester and District Jewish Community

Background:
The Colchester and District Jewish Community was registered in 1965 and currently accommodates the needs of 80 Jewish families in Colchester and the surrounding area.   It holds weekly services and regular social events, and its activities include pastoral and welfare visits to sick and disabled Jewish people, including people in prison or detention.
