a different bank for people who want a different world
how your ethical investments can work harder
Our capacity to benefit society is determined by our levels of capital and reserves. They are the lifeblood of the bank generated through ethical investing.
Why Charity Bank?
Since our launch in 2002, our mission has been to use finance exclusively for social purpose. We only lend to charities, social enterprises and community groups.
As a regulated charity and a bank we currently have over £65.5m in deposits. Since our launch we have lent over £165m in loans of which £105m has been repaid to date. We have a low loan default rate of just 0.5%.
Charity Bank has improved the lives of 3.5 million people in need, which has helped us to win multiple innovation and banking awards.
Money invested with us works harder
Charity Bank is an FSA regulated bank and, as such, capital invested in the bank can leverage multiple times:
- Under FSA rules we can raise 6 times our capital in deposits for lending.
- Loans, as they are repaid, can be recycled again and again.
- Our loans unlock an additional 0.5x of financing for our borrowers.
Therefore a £250,000 capital Investment results in £2.7m in social loans to those helping the most vulnerable in society.
Why Now?
The withdrawal of Government grants, public spending cuts and a retreat by some mainstream lenders means that funding for charities is increasingly difficult to obtain at a time when demand for their services is high.
With grant funding reducing charities and social enterprises need to complement their funding needs with affordable loans.
Invest in Charity Bank
Charity Bank’s model uniquely positions us to support these enterprising charities and social enterprises. To increase our support, and the benefit to society, we need more capital investment.
