Family Action: building stronger families and brighter lives

Family Action has been offering vulnerable families vital support for 150 years. With one in five people in the UK living in poverty, the need for the charity’s services has never been greater.

Social Problem

All families face pressures at times, but some challenges can be extremely difficult to overcome without support. Poverty, social isolation, family breakdown and mental health are just a few of the issues UK families are facing today.

Solution

Family Action has been supporting families since 1869 with most of the charity’s 150 services based in local communities. They offer vital practical, emotional and financial assistance to more than 45,000 families every year. From mentoring young care leavers, to providing parenting support, to helping children overcome a history of abuse, the charity gives families and individuals the help they need to move forward with their lives.

Loan

Family Action approached Charity Bank for a loan to buy a new 9,000 square foot Head Office in central London. Time was of the essence, as the charity did not want to sign up to another five year lease on its rented office. Charity Bank worked with Family Action to make sure the deal was completed on time. As well as accommodating 100 London based and visiting staff at any one time, the new building offers meeting spaces, rooms for training and parenting groups and therapy spaces for families receiving support from the charity. It will also save the charity money, as the loan payments are considerably lower than the rent it was paying previously.

Impact

Whether it’s listening when a struggling parent needs someone to talk to, helping families break the cycle of domestic violence, or supporting children in care, the charity is offering a much needed helping hand to some of the most vulnerable families in society. With Family Action’s support, families are stronger and children are gaining a better start in life.

“Charity Bank was able to offer us a loan that met all our requirements at a competitive rate. The current financial climate is extremely challenging, so it’s now even more important to have a loan provider that really understands the charity sector. Charity Bank worked with us to sculpt a deal that gives us the stability and flexibility we need. We now have extra confidence that we can continue with our core work, knowing we have the security of a major asset that should appreciate in value.”
